Private Pilot License (PPL)

The Private Pilot Licence (PPL) is your first step toward becoming a CAAP-certified pilot, giving you the privilege to fly single-engine aircraft for non-commercial purposes — day or night, with passengers on board. Our CAAP-approved programme combines structured ground school with hands-on dual and solo flight training, ensuring you arrive at your checkride with the knowledge, airmanship, and confidence to pass — and to fly safely beyond it.

Program Structure

A. Ground School (50 Hours)

Aviation Theory

  • Principles of flight and aerodynamics
  • Aircraft systems and performance
  • Meteorology and weather interpretation

Air Law & Regulations

  • PCAR Part 91 — General Operating and Flight Rules
  • Philippine airspace classifications and operating requirements

Navigation & Flight Planning

  • Map reading, VFR chart usage, and route planning
  • Fuel calculation, weight and balance, and performance planning

Flight Safety & Emergency Procedures

  • Pre-flight inspection
  • Handling engine failures, weather changes, and emergencies

Radio Communication

  • Standard ICAO aviation phraseology
  • ATC communication procedures for Philippine airspace

B. Flight Training

Pre-Flight Preparation

Aircraft inspection, fuel check, weight and balance, and instructor briefing

Basic Maneuvers

Straight and level flight, climbs, descents, turns, and circuit training

Advanced Maneuvers

Stall recognition and recovery, steep turns, forced landings, and go-arounds

Cross-Country Navigation

Dual and solo cross-country planning and execution — minimum 5 hours solo XC required under PCAR Part 61

Night Flying

3 hours night instruction including 1 hour cross-country and 10 solo touch-and-go circuits

Solo Flights

10 hours supervised solo flight to build independent airmanship and confidence

Assessments

  • CAAP PPL Airmen Knowledge Test — covers all PCAR Part 61 ground school subjects
  • Conducted with a CAAP-authorised flight examiner
  • Oral Examination: Covers air law, aircraft systems, emergency procedures, and flight planning

Entry Requirements

  • 17 years old (16 years for supervised solo flight)
  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Able to read, speak, and understand English proficiently
  • Hold a valid CAAP Class 2 Medical Certificate issued by a CAAP-accredited Aviation Medical Examiner (AME)
