The Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) is the professional standard — the licence that allows you to be paid to fly and to begin your pathway into the Philippine airline industry. Building on your PPL foundation, our CAAP-approved CPL programme develops advanced airmanship, cross-country decision-making, and the instrument competency that commercial operations demand. Every hour is logged with purpose, every lesson structured around what the industry expects on day one.

Program Structure

A. Ground School (80 Hours)

Advanced Aviation Theory

  • Advanced aerodynamics and high-performance aircraft systems
  • Aircraft loading, performance calculations, and limitations
  • Advanced meteorology and synoptic weather analysis

Air Law & PCAR Regulations

  • PCAR Part 61, Part 91, and commercial operating rules
  • Philippine and ICAO airspace structure, ATC procedures, and pilot-in-command responsibilities

Advanced Navigation & Flight Planning

  • Long-range VFR and IFR route planning and fuel management
  • Performance-based navigation, weight and balance for commercial operations

Flight Safety & Crew Resource Management

  • Threat and error management in commercial operations
  • CRM principles, decision-making, and situational awareness

Radio Communication

  • Advanced ATC communication and IFR phraseology
  • Distress, urgency, and lost communications procedures

B. Flight Training

Pre-Flight Preparation

Advanced aircraft inspection, performance planning, weight and balance calculation, and captain's briefing

Basic & Advanced Maneuvers

Precision steep turns, stall series, unusual attitude recovery, and engine-out procedures

Instrument Flight Training

Minimum 10 hours instrument time (at least 5 hours in aircraft) — partial panel, VOR tracking, and instrument approaches

Cross-Country Navigation

Minimum 20 hours cross-country PIC — long-distance route planning and execution across Philippine airspace

Night Flying

Minimum 10 hours night flight training including 5 hours in aircraft — night circuits, navigation, and emergency procedures

Solo PIC Hours

Minimum 100 hours pilot-in-command time — building command authority, decision-making, and operational independence

Assessments

  • CAAP CPL Airmen Knowledge Test — covering all PCAR Part 61, Subpart F ground school subjects
  • Practical Flight Test (Checkride): Conducted with a CAAP-authorised flight examiner
  • Oral Examination: Covers advanced air law, aircraft systems, emergency procedures, cross-country planning, and CRM

Entry Requirements

  • Minimum age: 18 years old
  • Hold a valid CAAP Private Pilot Licence (PPL)
  • Able to read, speak, and understand English proficiently
  • Hold a valid CAAP Class 1 Medical Certificate issued by a CAAP-accredited Aviation Medical Examiner (AME)
